Poll Results

We handed out the poll to a group of 10 people of a similar target audience age (the majority were 17/18) this is because it shows what would appeal to our target audience the most, as well as which font is the most eye-catching.

The most popular font was the fourth (as seen above) and as a group we have decided to use this one as our logo. It suits the genre of our music video, with the purple fitting the nightlife we aim to film in. The logo will appear at the beginning of the music video, alongside the digipak and posters.

Week Review/ Plan

Due to schedules and our planned filming time being eaten into we wasn't able to achieved what we had hoped. However, we did make progress on our logo ideas as well as research into electro-pop conventions, and individually I was able to look into some of the techniques that we're planning to use. This week, as a group we will finish the story board to the best of our ability, and blog about it. We will also do a handful of quick test shots so we can practice the stamp text effect - along with making the animatic if we have time.

We plan to re-do our test shots on Friday, if the footage is suitable we will use it for editing practice.

Research into Elecro-Pop

Initial Logo Ideas

Fonts 1-3 and 5-6 Aural
Font 4 Manbow
Colour palette used.

As a group we have been experimenting with our logo idea, we decided that the Aural font was our favourite. We used the colour palette from before, and it works well against a dark background - resembling neon lights that we aim to have in the music video. Although our favourite is the first, we will create a poll and ask people similar to our target audience which one is their favourite.

Camera Techniques

Some shots we are planning to use in our music video are:

- Over the shoulder: Draw the viewer in, creates a sense of intimacy.
- Track in/out: Using a dolly, used at the beginning and end of the video to give the effect of a zoom.
- Eye level angles: Especially for eye contact shots, create a sense of normality and realism.
- Long shot: Beginning of the music video, location and visually pleasing shots.
- Medium shot: Majority of the music video.
- Close up: Lip syncing, arcade shots, to create a relation between artist and audience.
- Establishing shot: Showing locations at the beginning of the music video (mainly seen in the       montage).

Colour Scheme Developments

As a group we have developed the colour scheme for our artist's logo. We decided on dull purple hues because they reflect the night time, which we aim to film in, the bottom on is what we agreed on as all the colours blend well together. Although we have a choice of five colours, we will use a maximum of three for the logo - to give it a 3D effect.

Job Roles

As a group we have decided that I will take on the role of cinematographer and director, Fiona will be playing a part in all roles, Niamh editing and Kelly Mise-en-Scene.

As cinematographer I will be filming the music video, as well as focusing on lighting. I will need to look into exposure, and to understand how lighting will effect the video. I'll be managing equipment as well as creating the 'look' of the music video itself.

Week Plan

This week our group is aiming to get test footage, including our outfit and makeup ideas, to practice editing - specifically the stamp text effect. We will also make an animatic using our story board. As an individual I will look into camera techniques, and how they will help us when filling.

Location Scouting

As mentioned in previous blog pots, our group wanted to film at God's own Junkyard, an arcade and in/around London and Camden. We emailed God's own Junkyard and Namco Funscape to see if we were allowed to film there in the near future.

Only Namco Funscape got back to us, and unfortunately we aren't allowed to film there. This is something our group has to take into consideration when scouting for locations and as an arcade is a significant location for our music video, so we will have to find ways to film at one. We originally chose Namco because of its location, London, which would have allowed us to use our time up there wisely - as we are also looking into doing a few shots at a train station. But now we're aiming to film at TenPin Bowling Alley, that has a small arcade, the location is close to us all, allowing us to visit there multiple times easily if a shot doesn't work.

Feedback

From our teacher's feedback I will make sure to blog all developments and reflect on them as we go. Our project is progressing well, with each of us taking on one thing to do (while referring to the group) - this will allow us to get the planning done quickly and efficiently.

Pitch Feedback and Reflection

These are the feedback sheets from other pupils and our teacher after presenting our pitch. There are some things that do work well, but also some things that do not - from this we will improve our artist and ideas for the music video.
Positive: Our artist, Record label and target audience are believable, they all fit together to create the type of artist and the audience we intended to.

Negative: Narrative/Music video is not clear enough. As a group we will plan everything more thoroughly and decided exactly what we want in the video.

Mindmap

Many of these points are just ideas, as certain factors will impact them, such as weather and lighting. We will scout locations and start asking around for people to be in our music video.
